Frank Haslam Milan are one of three partners currently working with Wolverhampton Homes to deliver their £228m refurbishment scheme of 24,000 properties owned by Wolverhampton City Council over a five year period. This essential work will ensure homes reach the Governments Decent Homes Standard by 2012 & create a brighter future for local tenants.
The extensive programme of refurbishment includes full kitchen & bathroom replacement, central heating replacement & full re-wiring of properties. While external works include soffit, fascias, rainwater goods, roof repairs & envelope works to non-traditional properties. We are currently handing over 40 properties a week for internal works & 60 per week for external works.
Frank Haslam Milan are fully committed to working in areas that genuinely need transformation, helping to take places where people would not necessarily choose to live & turn them into thriving communities. However, this can only be achieved with the support & involvement of the communities in which we work. We not only focus on home improvements but also on opportunities for employment, training & social inclusion. Across the Decent Homes Scheme we have recruited 30 apprentices & trainees in Year 1 of the scheme & have a target of ensuring that 15% of the workforce are from BME groups.
Fraser Mercer, Managing Director of Frank Haslam Milan West Midlands sums up Keepmoat's commitment to local training & employment: "Our work to help regenerate areas & communities goes well beyond any traditional refurbishment or construction work. It is vital that we actively work to provide a sustainable future for the whole area."
Due to the nature of the work with Wolverhampton Homes extensive consultation with tenant's takes place before any work commences. Internal works are carried out to tenants homes while they are in situ & it is vital that they have clear understanding of the refurbishment process & what will be expected of them.
Our team of dedicated Resident Liaison officers provide independent support & advice to tenants & the wider community affected by the relevant works, keeping them continually informed & up to date with progress & related issues. We have worked closely with both Pendiford & Dovecotes in this area.
Shaun Aldis, Director of Property Services said "Without the help & support of FHM we would not have been able to deliver such a huge programme. FHM has shown that the programme is 'more than bricks & mortar', by offering opportunities to young people at such an early stage of the programme. In addition to this there has been no shortage of FHM supporting local community initiatives. This not only demonstrates a commitment that FHM has to the local economy but also puts something back into the community in the long term".
