Rugby Borough Council

Frank Haslam Milan are currently undertaking a scheme of work in partnership with Rugby Borough Council. This project consists of the refurbishment of 9 airey properties & the construction of 35 new build properties including bungalows, terraced & semi-detached properties. This project has been valued at £4.3m.

These works are being carried out in the Pailton & Dunchruch areas in Rugby. The site Managers for these projects are Jas Nandhra (Pailton) & Mark Churms (Dunchurch).

Whilst carrying out these works our team had to overcome environmental issues as Pipistrelle bats had become inhabitants in a number of the properties that had been selected for demolition. An Environmental Specialist was brought in to observe the bats & devise the best possible solution for re-housing this species.

Pipistrelle bats hibernate during the winter from about mid-October, mating takes place in the autumn just before hibernation. Although this is the most common breed of bat in Britain it has been declining in recent years. In order to preserve this species our programme of works was timed around their behavioural patterns. We also incorporated 'bat boxes' into the new build properties offering the bats a new area to roost in.

In May 2008 Jas Nandhra was presented with the prestigious Site Manager's Health & Safety Award in recognition for his continued commitment to health and safety. Jas consistently takes pride in ensuring that all documentation is in place and everyone is aware of the standards expected on his sites.

Over the past 6 months Jas's Rugby site has been chosen for our ISO accreditation visit where an external auditor visited the site assessing for Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental compliance and the site was filmed as part of our entry into the West Midlands Constructing Excellence Awards. In addition Jas's Rugby site scored top marks in a recent Senior Management Team Audit.
