On the latest phase of Group Repair in Leeds environmentally-conscious Vik Banks dreamed of making her house greener so she started from the top down - by having a grass roof installed!

As part of the improvements to her home we installed a first-storey lawn on the kitchen of her home in Burley Lodge, Leeds, which is believed to be the first house in Leeds to have been awarded a grant to cover the cost of such improvements.

It not only provides some unusual green space in the neighbourhood of tightly-packed terraced streets, it also absorbs extra rainwater and provides a thriving summer habitat for local insects, birds and butterflies. Other environmentally friendly works to her home included using Thermafleece made from British sheep's wool to insulate the loft, the use of recycled door frames and decorating with organic paint.
