Wensley Court in Sheffield is a new development built for South Yorkshire Housing Association consisting of 16 new family homes, 14 of which were built to Eco-Homes Very Good and two to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.
The use of photovoltaic panels which sit flush to the roof provide an economic benefit as well as an ecological one. As photovoltaic panels work on light, not sunlight, they work even on an overcast day and any excess power generated can effectively be 'sold' back into the power grid.
The Code Level 4 homes are also fitted with dual flush wc's and flow restricted taps to reduce water consumption.
The project value was £1.5M with the Code 4 homes being grant aided through the Low Carbon Build Programme.
