Keepmoat celebrates NextGeneration results for sustainability

Keepmoat announced today that it has achieved its highest score to date under the NextGeneration benchmark, which measures a company's sustainability performance.

The leading community regeneration specialist has substantially improved its sustainability performance this year under the NextGeneration benchmark, moving from 11th place in 2009 to fifth place in 2011.

This year, Keepmoat surpassed its score in previous years by achieving 64% in the corporate benchmark.

The percentage score compares with 34% in 2009 which is the last time that this particular benchmark, which measures a company's full range of sustainability impacts, was held.

Keepmoat also boasts Gold Leaf membership of the UK Green Building Council, a leading organisation which campaigns for a sustainable built environment.

The company joined NextGeneration in 2008, demonstrating a genuine commitment to improve the sustainability of both its homes and operations.

Increasing concerns about climate change, resource depletion and energy security is affecting the decisions Keepmoat makes when designing and constructing its buildings.

NextGeneration has provided Keepmoat with an objective, independent assessment of its overall sustainability performance by rigorously assessing strategy, governance and risk management procedures, office and site operations together with its products and services.

"This year's benchmark demonstrates an even greater commitment to sustainability, highlighting how, as a group, we are collectively improving our performance year on year," said Dane Elliott, Keepmoat's Director of Sustainable Development.

"The results are fantastic but we will continue to use the NextGeneration criteria as a catalyst for further improvement across the full range of our environmental, social and economic impact areas."

Keepmoat and its delivery companies Bramall Construction Ltd., Frank Haslam Milan Ltd., Keepmoat Homes and Milnerbuild are aware that the housing decisions they make now will affect the quality of life of generations to come.

Keepmoat's outstanding sustainability performance extends to becoming the most prolific provider of zero carbon, Code Level 6 homes in the country. Over 100 zero carbon homes have been completed by Keepmoat in 2011.

The company became the first contractor in England to receive BRE certification to Level 4 under the Code for Sustainable Homes and received the country's first ever BREEAM excellent rating for extra care housing.

Building upon its outstanding record in social housing refurbishment, Keepmoat is now an established large scale provider of retrofit solutions having delivered several pioneering eco-refurbishment pilot projects across the UK.

Apart from its zero carbon record, Keepmoat also scored highly under the NextGeneration scheme for registering all of its sites under the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

The benchmark review took into consideration Keepmoat's attention to community concerns such as waste generation, land use and proximity to local transport and amenities when planning new developments.

Changes that Keepmoat has made to its organisational structure were also acknowledged by NextGeneration such as its introduction of sustainability champions across the group.
