Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) has joined the Existing Homes Alliance, a coalition of organisations calling for urgent action to transform the UK's existing housing stock and make it fit for the 21st century.
The Existing Homes Alliance aims to bring a practical focus to the need for an ambitious programme of low carbon refurbishment across the UK's housing stock, in line with the UK's need to cut carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.
The Alliances is working with all sectors including financial institutions, builders and installers, energy utilities, manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, social housing managers, homeowners, landlords, local authorities, and with government, to develop a programme of radical low carbon refurbishment and the role each sector can play in making this a reality.
"We deliver millions of pounds worth of investment into housing for clients throughout the UK", said Mark Rodda, Sustainability Champion for FHM's Yorkshire & East Midlands region, "but Retrofit is still way behind the New Build sector in addressing carbon issues and energy efficiency".
"FHM are fully committed to the sustainability agenda", continued Mark. "We already employ engineers qualified to fit solar thermal panels and heat pumps and expect to receive our MCS Accreditation through BRE within the next few weeks, enabling us to provide this service through our in-house team for capital grant funded projects".
The declaration states that over 85% of the homes standing today will still be lived in by 2050 and we need to be radically refurbishing over half a million homes a year between now and then if long range carbon targets are to be met.
