Celebrating at the CIOB South Yorkshire Awards

FHM are celebrating after scooping a gong in this year's Celebrating Construction in South Yorkshire Awards.

FHM took home the prestigious Environmental and Renewable Technologies Award at this year's Chartered Institute of Building event in recognition of their commitment to the sustainability agenda.

This year's event promoted a range of sectors essential to the delivery of innovative construction, from empowering communities to creating low carbon developments and being environmentally proactive.

The awards demonstrated what can be achieved through strong partnerships and a clear vision with categories chosen to reflect the sensitive and diverse issues in today's construction industry.

The trophy recognised FHM for maximising the use of sustainable technology across its sites and for reinforcing the eco message among its staff, stakeholders and the wider community.

FHM are currently building to Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, utilising a spectrum of eco technology from photovoltaic panels and mechanical ventilation heat recovery to rainwater harvesting, aerated taps and dual flush toilets. FHM also held a masterclass to promote the use and benefits of renewable technology to housing associations and local authorities.

Martin Smithurst, Managing Director of Frank Haslam Milan, said: "Sustainability is at the core of our agenda and we are leading the way in utilising the most state-of-the-art eco technology across our developments."

Keepmoat Group signed up to the annual NextGeneration benchmark in 2008, which charts commitment to the eco agenda. Robust auditing and evidence of implementing investment, policy and strategic decisions by all the group resulted in a move from 11th place in 2009 to 5th place in 2010, the highest climb of any company.

Dane Elliott, Keepmoat's Director of Sustainable Development, said: "We are incredibly proud to celebrate this duo of wins, which reflect our firm commitment to the sustainability agenda in construction."
